Armenian broadcasting law fails to guarantee media pluralism

OSCE, Vienna, 15 Jun 2010 – Despite amendments, Armenia’s new Law on Television and Radio fails to promote broadcast pluralism in the digital era, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatovic, said today.

After Wang Lequan’s departure from East Turkestan, flawed policies remain

UAA, Washington, 27.04.2010 – On April 24, Chinese state media announced that 57-year-old Zhang Chunxian, formerly the Communist Party Secretary of Hunan Province, had been appointed to the post of Party Secretary for the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), replacing 65-year-old Wang Lequan, who has been made deputy secretary of the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee. Armenia: Journalist beaten up in Yerevan

On February 24, the photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan was beaten up right in front of the RA Prosecutor General’s Office.

The journalist told NEWS.am that a man attacked him as he was trying to take pictures of the officers. The attacker was insulting the journalist and hitting him in the face and other parts of the body. Read more…
