The board also elected deputy chairman – Ramaz Gamezardashvili, founder and director general of Chiatura-based television company Imervizia.

The association also announced the vacancy for the executive director of the organization formerly held by Avtandil Gvasalia. He will now run one of the divisions under the new organizational structure.

According to Tamar Ghvinianidze, executive director along with the board will prioritize in acquiring grant funding. This direction will be one of the essential parts of the association’s new strategy.

“We also intend to form independent advertising service that will work to fill commercial spots of our member televisions. This would be our second essential direction of the new strategy, “–says Tamar Ghvinianidze.

In regard to the change of the association’s name, Tamar Ghvinianidze notes that some member companies are operating not only in television broadcasting, but also in radio broadcasting sphere; hence their accession to the organization is important.

“As our union became open to regional radio stations, the term “association of television broadcasters” caused certain inconveniences; so we decided to change the name to the one that reflected function and composition of the association – the association of broadcasters” – says the newly elected chairman of the association, who received the Man of the Year Award 2009 of the American Biographical Institute for “outstanding contribution” to the “advancement and development” of Georgia.

Tamar Ghvianianidze: “I have no idea who nominated me for this award. I didn’t even know such organization existed. I received a congratulation letter from Washington DC. Apparently, my biography meets the criteria of the institute as well as the requisites for the award. As I found out the selection is done on the biography basis. The organization annually announces Man of the Year Award winners in every country. This year’s award ceremony was held on April 3 in Washington DC. Award winners were announced. Two days ago I received a special diploma and an invitation letter. I was invited to the forum of the Man of the Year award winners held From June 29 to July 4 in Washington.
