Azerbaijan is an example of good attitude towards Jews for other Muslim states

Today.az, Baku, 19 Dec 2008 – The aim of our visit to Azerbaijan, along with the participation in the session of the Coordination Council of the World Azerbaijan is to meet with different countries including several ministers of the Azerbaijani government, said vice president of the community of US Mountain Jews and member of the Azerbaijani association of America Erik Yevdayev.

According to him, they are also planning to visit Guba, where Jews reside for already several centuries.

As for the cooperation between the two countries, he said he considers in important when people work together.

“We in America wish the expansion of cooperation between Israel and Azerbaijan as well as Azerbaijan and America. By the way, I have supported the initiative of the head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in America Tomris Azeri and promised to assist in creation of the Israel-Azerbaijan-America forum in Washington”m, said he and added that they want this event to happen next year.

According to him, Jews historically live in Azerbaijan for more than 1.5 years.

“For example, I work in the United Nations and when I am asked about by origin, I tell them I am from Azerbaijan. And they see that Azerbaijanis are attentive and friendly to Jews. This must be like that because why should there be a difference in the attitude towards people just because they have different religion or nationality?”, noted Yevdayev.

He said in this sense Azerbaijan can serve an example for other Muslim states.

“Jewish community of the United States is closely cooperating with the Azerbaijani. Representatives of the Jewish community often come to Azerbaijan, meet the the country’s officials and public representatives. I think it is important as these two countries can give much to each others. Azerbaijan can show other Muslim states that it is possible to be Muslim but to treat Jews well. while Jews can assist in many issues in their bilateral cooperation, implementation of joint projects with Azerbaijan, which is now happening.

As I was born and grew up in Azerbaijan, I feel a great love to this country. Regardless of where I am and where I will live in the future, this love will always be in my heart”, concluded he.
