nCa, Ashgabat, 15 Aug 2008 – In a statement issued Friday, the government of Turkmenistan has expressed concern and grief at the situation in South Ossetia and called for peaceful, diplomatic means to resolve the conflict.
“Turkmenistan expresses its deep concern and grief at the tragic events in South Ossetia leading to massive human casualties among the civilian population,” the statement issued by the foreign ministry of Turkmenistan says.
After extending condolence to the people affected by the events, the statement says, “Turkmenistan supports international efforts to create an atmosphere of dialogue in order to prevent the resumption of military conflict and humanitarian issues related to the consequences of this tragedy.”
“Turkmenistan believes that conflict resolution should be implemented only through peaceful, diplomatic means and methods, which in turn will help ensure stability and security in the region,” concludes the statement.
